Announcements at Mass

21-Jul-2011

Recently, we have had a number of people come up and say that they would like to see more reverence in the church space before the start of Mass. One of the procedures that we are going to modify is the placement of the announcements. We are going to move the announcements to the period after the Communion A/V meditation. The new procedures will go into effect on the first weekend of August, as follows:

  1. The announcer prior to the start of Mass will say the following: “Welcome to Good Shepherd! Today is the ____th Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are still in need of ___ (#) of Eucharistic Ministers. We ask that you now take a minute to turn off all cell phones, pagers, and watches that chime so that we can give our complete attention to the Lord.” This will happen about 4 minutes before the start of Mass. The prelude music will follow.
  2. Then return to your place.
  3. After Communion as the distributors return to the sanctuary with vessels, we ask that the announcer come up to the lector chair and have a seat. This will limit the amount of excess movement.
  4. Once everyone stands up for the post-Communion prayer, you will move to the ambo. Please wait until the presider finishes the prayer and then go into the announcements. Once you have finished, you may go back down to your seat for the final blessing.

Thank you for your participation and your service to the Lord and our parishioners.
