Fill A Bag & Fill A Need

Fill A Bag for the Hungry

At times people who may be hungry visit Good Shepherd asking for help and are given a “food bag.” We have a supply of nonperishable, long lasting food in paper bags which at times are also given through St. Vincent de Paul. The following costs about $23 at a grocery store and it will all fit in one paper grocery bag (we ask that the bag be doubled).

  • Box of dry milk
  • 3 cans of beef stew, meat or chicken
  • Jar of peanut butter
  • Jar of jelly
  • Box of mac and cheese
  • 2 cans of soup
  • 3 cans of vegetables
  • 3 cans of fruit
  • Box of corn flakes
  • Bar of Ivory soap

Parishioners can contribute to this effort by shopping for the items above and “filling a bag.” This could be a fun and meaningful family activity.

“Food bags” can be dropped off in the office at anytime to the attention of Jack Peltz. Information about the NEEDS food pantry, Good Shepherd and St. Vincent de Paul are included in an envelope in the bag along with $3 for bread/perishables. We date the bags and store for people in need. We will not let any food go to waste – bags not used for some period of time will be given to St. Francis Seraph Ministries as part of “Shepherds Share.”
