To open new opportunities for families to participate in faith formation, Good Shepherd is launching a Summer Faith Formation program for grades 1 through 6. We believe this option will provide a wonderful blend of prayer, instructional catechesis, sacramental celebrations, and community-building for children and parents.
The summer program will be held July 19 through July 30 from 8:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Daily classes will begin with Mass and end with group prayer which will be led by the students. Students in grades 3-6 will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
On-going Formation: It is important that parents reinforce the concepts learned in the faith formation classes, and that the family actively continues to grow in their faith through weekly participation in the Mass and in on-going faith formation enrichment.
Throughout the year we will offer faith activities for families which will provide an opportunity for your family to learn together and pray together.
Although the dates and themes for the family programs are tentative there will be two programs in the fall and two in the spring.
In addition, families are encouraged to have their children participate in the Sunday Liturgy of the Word program for children in grades K-6 at the 9:00 a.m. Mass.
These family events will be an important component of both the summer and weekly K-6 Faith Formation programs. The expectation is that all parents will participate with their children in on-going faith formation throughout the year. Children learn and grow in many ways and experiencing a developing and growing faith with others is very important.
Parents interested in enrolling their children in the summer program should do so with the understanding that they are the first and most significant teachers of their children. This is a wonderful option for families who often find themselves with conflicts during the academic year, yet want to provide a quality educational experience in their child’s formation.
