Sacrament of First Eucharist

Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God.

Preparation for this sacrament is offered in three sessions, late winter and early spring.

First Eucharist is offered only to children who are baptized members of the Catholic Church, are parish members, and attend the weekday Religious Education program. Parents are required to attend a meeting on the presentation of the sacrament.

“The Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord’s own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.”
