Family Life Ministry

Our mission is to support parish families as they seek and achieve an authentic and satisfying Christian experience in marriage and family life, helping them embrace a growing love relationship with Jesus Christ.

BeachFamily: An intimate community of persons bound together by blood, marriage, or adoption, for the whole life.

By sharing in the life and mission of the Church, the family is the church of the home. The domestic church is the family; it is the faith-life of the family. It is a community of life and love, an invisible structure made of the love between each family member and between them and God.

Consider these five simple ways to keep your faith going strong:

  1. Attend Mass as a family. This helps reinforce the message that God loves us and we are more in tune to recognize Him at work in our every day lives.
  2. Pray together. Use both traditional Catholic prayers and spontaneous prayer. A great resource available on our Book Rack in the parish library is: Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers (see book image below).
  3. Make sacred space in your home. Signs of your faith throughout your house remind you (and your guests) of what you believe and why. A crucifix, icon, or statue of a favorite saint in a child’s room, for example, can help teach the faith and create a feeling of safety and security.
  4. Practice acts of charity. As a family, discuss what you are concerned about in your local community, and volunteer to serve your brothers and sisters in need. The mission of the family is to serve one another and build up the kingdom of God.
  5. Celebrate the family meal. The Eucharist is the family meal at the center of our Catholic faith. Try to sit down to dinner together several times a week, especially on Sundays. Talk, tell stories, and pray while you eat. This is what we do at Mass, and you do the same at home when you share a family meal.

These points were taken from the Summer 2009 edition of: “Take Out – Family Faith on the Go”

We have several other great books for sale on the Book Rack in the parish library that your family might enjoy. Take a look and see if any of them could be the right one for you!
