Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is how the Church welcomes and nurtures those who are not baptized, and also those who are baptized in other faith traditions. RCIA is available to anyone who is of the age of reason, including children, and who wishes to enter the Catholic Church. Those who enter the process begin a journey of faith where they progress at their own pace.
Volunteers lead the RCIA process, and serve in a wide variety of roles including sponsorship, welcoming, hospitality, outreach, catechist, musician, artist, and communications.
Being a Sponsor is an important part of the process for those who are exploring the Catholic faith. Those wishing to consider being a "parish friend" to someone, come on Thursday night to meet the folks and become acquainted with RCIA.
Those willing to serve in any capacity of the RCIA process should first and foremost have a welcoming and hospitable attitude. They should be willing to share their own stories of ongoing conversion and discipleship. Many times this is a gradual process that the individual learns over time with the help of ongoing training within the parish and at the diocesan level.
