Liturgy Ministries

Our simple purpose is to help create spiritually nourishing experiences for all who attend our weekend Masses.

Members assist at weekend Masses in five ministries - Announcers, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Gift Bearers, and Sacristans. Learn more about each of these ministries by reading our Guideline Book for Liturgical Ministries.

To join any of these ministries, complete our quick ministry participation form.

Announcers & Lectors
The Announcer welcomes the assembly in the name of the entire parish family. He or she invites members to greet one another. Then the announcements pertaining to special events, circumstances, or the needs of the parish are read. The Lector proclaims the Word of God by reading the first and second Scripture readings and the petitions. A volunteer must audition to be an Announcer or Lector, and if selected, attend the Announcer / Lector Workshop. Announcers and Lectors must have a clear, concise speaking voice, be articulate, and capable of speaking in front of large crowds.

Time Commitment: Once every two months at Mass of choice, preparation time at home (considerable time for lectors), arrive 15-20 minutes before Mass begins.

Eucharistic Ministers
Eurcharistic Ministers distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the entire assembly. Each volunteer must meet the standards required by the church and participate in a Communion Distribution Workshop.

Gift Bearers
Gift Bearers prepare the gifts prior to Mass, participate in the entrance processional and recessional, and bring forth the gifts to the altar at the Offertory. Gift Bearers can be individuals or families, and must attend a Gift Bearer Workshop.

Time Commitment: Every 4-8 weeks at Mass of choice. Arrive 25 minutes prior to Mass to help the Sacristan set up and prepare the gifts.

Sacristans
The Sacristan is responsible for the continuous flow of the worship experience, and is considered the team leader for the Liturgy Ministers. Sacristans arrive 25 minutes before Mass and usually stay for about ten minutes after Mass in order to set up and take down the materials necessary for saying Mass. The Sacristan assures that the Announcer, Lector(s), and Gift Bearers are present and directs the Gift Bearers during Mass setup. Sacristans must have an understanding of the flow of the Mass, possess some management skills and participate in individualized training with the Director of Liturgical Ministries. Sacristans are also trained as Eucharistic Ministers.
