Green Team - Care for God's Creation
We inform the parish about the global climate crisis and care for the earth.

Caring for God’s Creation
“If You Want to Cultivate Peace, Protect Creation.”
— Pope Benedict XVl
“Preservation of the environment, promotion of sustainable development and particular attention to climate change are matters of grave concern for the entire human family.”
— Pope Benedict XVl
“Before it is too late, it is necessary to make courageous decisions to curb climate change.”
— Pope Benedict XVl
Catholic Social Teaching
“At its core, global climate change is not about economic theory or political platforms, nor about partisan advantage or interest group pressures. It is about the future of God's creation and the one human family. It is about protecting both the human environment and the natural environment.”
— The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
Come Join Us
- We can show our love and respect for the Creator by our stewardship of creation. Care for the earth is not just an Earth Day slogan, it is a requirement of our Catholic faith.
- We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation.
- We have a responsibility to leave our earthly home a better place than when we began our life on it.
- We acknowledge that social justice and care for creation are deeply connected. The impact of climate change falls heaviest on the world's poor. As Catholics, our faith demands prudent action.
We Offer You
- A warm invitation to help shape the Green Team’s future by contributing your ideas and enthusiasm to efforts reducing our personal and congregational carbon footprints.
- Fellowship with team members who enjoy making a difference in the lives of our children and their children who inherit the environment we leave behind.
- An appreciation of new ways to celebrate our interconnection within God’s sacred creation.
Action Steps
Responding to Pope Benedict’s call to protect the environment and populations that are vulnerable to global climate change, the Green Team is:
- Adopting the St. Francis Pledge.
- Researching rooftop solar panels and a Light Pipe, as well as promoting energy conservation at Good Shepherd to economize on electricity and other utility bills.
- Exploring methods to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE our material goods.
- Establishing a parish library
- display on the lifestyle changes that support a flourishing environment.

I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
— John 10:14-15
