Caregiver groups help spouses, friends and family members take time for self-care and access valuable resource information. We provide participants with opportunities to share ideas, joys and struggles in a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere. Come connect with others who will listen, understand and bring you hope and peace of mind.
Are you concerned about an aging parent? Is your spouse depending on you more and more due to their chronic illness? Have you found yourself caring for an adult child or a grandchild unexpectedly? Caregiver groups provide helpful resource information, understanding and encouragement. Caregiver groups meet to discuss the challenges and pitfalls of caregiving and how we can get out of crisis mode, and begin managing caregiving from an empowered place. Good Shepherd is restarting the Caregiver Support Group for those who have questions, need to talk or have support to offer to others. Coordinated by Catholic Charities, the group meets for an hour and half twice a month and addresses such topics as community resources, managing in home help, self-care, end of life issues and more.
Caring for a spouse, parent or loved one with a chronic condition can be physically, emotionally and financially draining. Oftentimes the caregiver is so focused on the person they’re caring for that they don’t always have time to take care of themselves, or give any real thought to what that looks like in a practical way.
The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program is led by a certified class leader and sponsored by the Caregiver Assistance Network, a program of Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio funded through the Council on Aging.
During these six weekly classes, you will hear some very practical steps for taking care of your needs and concerns, reducing stress, making decisions and communicating in challenging situations. You’ll have the opportunity to talk with folks in a similar situation and share ideas and thoughts.
