“Sack Lunch Sunday” is held the first Sunday of each month in the Community Room. Volunteers are needed beginning after the 10:00 a.m. Mass to put together 250 sack lunches for the St. Francis Seraph Ministries in Over-the-Rhine who provide daily sack lunches to as many as 600-day laborers whose take-home pay can be as little as $35 for a 10-hour day. Each lunch will include 2 sandwiches, a drink and snack.
The volunteer effort begins after the 10:00 a.m. Mass and concludes once the 250 sack lunches are made, about 20 to 30 minutes. The lunches will be stored in the walk-in cooler and on Monday morning volunteers will drive them to the St. Anthony Center. All the food and other items will be provided through outreach fund donation.
For families who are not able to attend on a scheduled Sack Lunch Sunday, families can make lunches on their own and bring them to Good Shepherd. Bologna and cheese sandwiches work the best with no mayonnaise or mustard. Each lunch should include:
Each lunch should be placed in a brown paper sack, folded over and taped. Families are most welcome to include a nice message or prayer in each sack lunch. Please use good sanitary measures such as the wearing of disposable gloves while making the lunches.
Lunches made for this purpose can be dropped off in the “walk-in cooler” on the Sunday listed in the Bulletin by 11:00 a.m. Lunches will then be taken to the St. Anthony Center the next day (Monday).
